At its core, being gospel-centred means that the good news of Jesus. His life, death, and resurrection. isn't just the entry point to the Christian life. It's the fuel for every single day.
More Than a Starting Point
Many of us grew up thinking the gospel was simply the message we believed to become Christians. Once you're "in," you move on to weightier matters. theology, ethics, spiritual disciplines.
But the gospel is not a door you walk through and leave behind. It's the air you breathe. It shapes how you relate to your spouse, how you handle failure at work, how you respond to injustice in the city.
What This Looks Like in Practice
When we say New City Mumbai is gospel-centred, we mean:
In our worship, we don't just sing about what God has done. we let the reality of grace reshape our hearts in real time. Every Sunday, we rehearse the story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.
In our community, we don't pretend to have it all together. The gospel frees us to be honest about our struggles, because our acceptance isn't based on performance. it's based on Christ's finished work.
In our mission, we don't serve the city out of guilt or obligation. We serve because we've been served. The generosity of God overflows into generosity toward our neighbours.
The Danger of Losing Centre
Churches drift when they replace the gospel with something else at the centre. moralism ("try harder"), therapy ("feel better"), or activism ("do more"). All of these have their place, but none can bear the weight of being the foundation.
The gospel alone produces lasting transformation. Not willpower. Not self-help. Not political engagement. Only the news that God has done for us what we could never do for ourselves.
For Mumbai
In a city of ambition and exhaustion, the gospel is the only message that can simultaneously say: "You are more sinful than you ever dared believe" and "You are more loved than you ever dared hope."
That paradox is what makes us different. And it's what we want to keep at the centre of everything we do.
